To be the “brains” of the system we installed an 11.2-channel Marantz AV7702 home theater receiver along with a Marantz MM8807 seven-channel preamp for the ultimate in power and quality, and a URC MRX-10 advanced network system controller which can be managed either by the URC MRX-10 controller we supplied, or a convenient iPad mini. We used high-quality cabling for the entire system, Monster 4K HDMI cables and full-copper, oxygen-free speaker cables; an APC power filter and surge protector makes sure there are no problematic power issues.
A system like this isn’t complete without some “goodies,” though, so we added in (at John’s request, of course) AppleTV, a Blu-ray player, a Karaoke system and a VHS player for older videotapes. Finally we installed two Sonos audio amplifiers to deliver high-quality sound to the whole-home audio system which would come next. All of the equipment was rack-mounted and installed out of sight.
We wired in-ceiling speakers for the home’s dining room, kitchen and bathrooms, using a mix of high-end Polk Audio and Niles Audio speakers; we weren’t able to run wires through the master and guest bedrooms, so we substituted wireless Sonos PLAY:5 and PLAY:3 speaker systems which provide a full plug-and-play audio experience powered by the whole-home system.
Despite the amount of work involved, we came in right on time and on budget, finishing the work in five days and for $28,900 – including the large equipment discounts we were able to provide for John as authorized dealers for the manufacturers. This turned out to be a showcase installation, and we’re as proud to show it as John is pleased to use it.
