A stunning, modern living room calls for an equally exquisite home theater, which is what we created for a New York, NY repeat client. It’s built around a powerful, surround-sound system with high-end KEF speakers and a 65-inch Sony UltraHD 3D Smart TV with all of the equipment and wiring hidden in an adjacent closet. The deep equipment discounts the client received were stunning, too.
We built this exquisite home theater for another of our satisfied DTV Installations clients in New York, NY. His home had a striking, modern living room and he wanted us to design and install a top-of-the-line home theater to match. We provided a free on-site consultation and presented him with our proposal and written estimate; with his approval, we ordered all of the equipment directly from the manufacturers, installed the two power outlets which would be required for the system, and then got busy with the real work.
This project, in many ways, was designed around an outstanding surround-sound audio system perfectly suited to the room’s acoustics and look – and that called for high-end KEF speakers.
We selected KEF Q700 floorstanding towers for the two front speakers. These attractive monsters use 6.5-inch Uni-Q drivers with one-inch aluminum tweeters to faithfully reproduce the entire audio spectrum, and because they’re so powerful they needed to be paired with a Marantz MM7025 two-channel powered preamp. We teamed them with a matching KEF Q600 center channel speaker, a powerhouse which makes the vocals and narration in a soundtrack come alive, and a companion KEF Q400B subwoofer providing a full 200 watts of booming bass. The surround sound is handled by high performance KEF T101 slim white speakers which are less than 1½ inches thick and blend seamlessly into the décor when mounted on the walls.
Even though the KEF speakers are a key to this home theater, there’s much more to it. We supplied and hung a top-rated 65-inch Sony XBR-65C850C UltraHD 4K 3D Smart TV which, when mounted high on the wall above the fireplace, looks like it’s always been right there. The HDTV and loudspeakers were all connected via high-quality Monster cables to a 7.2-channel Marantz SR5010 UltraHD 4K home theater receiver with WiFi and Bluetooth capability.

Of course, the appearance of this stunning room would be spoiled by a stack of equipment, so it was all hidden in a cabinet behind the wall with the cables hidden as well. The cabinet also housed the client’s Verizon cable box and the 4th generation AppleTV we supplied, plus a URC MRF 350 RF extender which allows all of the gear to be controlled right through the wall with a URC MX 1200 universal remote control.
We programmed the remote and showed the client how everything worked, and once again he was delighted with the system we created for him – even more delighted than he was when we told him about the big discounts he would receive for ordering all of the equipment through DTV Installations.
